I’m really really late with this post, I know! But I guess it’s never too late to set some goals. I guess you could also call these New Year’s Resolutions, but I don’t really like that, so I’m just going to call them goals. I like making these posts, especially since I can look back on these at the beginning of 2019 and see if I actually worked towards these. I also really love to read these kinds of posts on other blogs, so why not do one myself?!
Be more creative
This is more of a general and kind of vague goal. I want to be more creative in 2018. Not just online, but also offline. I love being creative, whether that is making a graphic in Photoshop or knitting a scarf or something completely different. But sometimes I want to do things really badly, and I end up not doing it because I’m afraid I’ll fail. If you think about it, that’s really stupid. So this year I just want to do the creative things that I come across and that I like, I want to just do it. Last year I really wanted to learn how to do handlettering, I still haven’t… so I guess I should just start doing it. Also the following goals kind of go hand in hand with this.
Start Bullet Journaling
Lately, I’ve been obsessed with bullet journaling. Not doing it myself, but watching videos about it and seeing pictures on Pinterest and Instagram. It really inspired and me, and now I want to start doing this as well. I already bought some supplies, a journal, pens, markers etc. So I don’t have any excuse not to do it. I think I’m going to try bullet journaling really soon. And I’ll probably share my journey on Instagram and maybe here.
Use my Instax camera more
Quite a while ago I bought an Instax camera, and even though I really like using it, I rarely ever do. I just never bring the camera. If I already have to carry around my Olympus camera I just don’t really want to log around another camera. But then again, I do really want to use it, because it is just a nice and different way of taking pictures. I saw someone doing an Instax spread in her bullet journal on YouTube and I think that’s such a good idea. She made a spread where she had room to stick in an Instax picture every month, so the idea is to take at least one picture a month with it. I am definitely going to try and do that.
Get on top of my Instagram game
Instagram is definitely my favourite social platform. I think I might even love it a little – just a little bit – more than my own blog. I really love taking pictures, editing them, putting them on Insta and then interact. Last year I really focussed on my Bookstagram account (if you don’t know this term, Bookstagram is a name for the community on Insta that takes pictures of books) and with success. I’m currently almost at 3.6K followers and that is just amazing. I hope to get my Bookstagram account; @ohmybookstagram, to at least 5K, but hopefully 10k, this year. But besides that, I really want to work on my other account, the account that goes with this blog; @chaptrtwentytwo. I haven’t posted too many pictures last year, and especially in the last months of the year, I was quite absent. So this year I really want to get on top of my Instagram game. Though I do find it harder to make lifestyle-ish pictures than I do bookish pictures. I guess I just need to find my style and way of editing.
2017 definitely wasn’t the greatest blogging year for me. Though I don’t regret me changing blogs and starting Chapter 22, I didn’t really blog that much in the first couple of months. I guess I had a bit of a blogging slump, and I also had a difficult time figuring out what exactly I wanted to blog about on here. But, right now I’m beaming with inspiration and I can’t wait to blog more and more. I hope I can keep it up, we’ll see.
Read more blogs
I used to use Bloglovin to follow blogs, but I kind of stopped doing that, because I don’t like Bloglovin anymore. It’s such a shame, but they are going in a direction that I – and many other bloggers – don’t really like. But because I stopped using Bloglovin, I kind off stopped reading blogs. Now I don’t really have a central spot or something where I can follow them all. This year I really want to read more blogs, and I already started this in December a bit. I’ve subscribed to a couple of newsletters, and I’ve made a list of blogs I love so I can check them out regularly. I would love to find an alternative for Bloglovin though, so tips are welcome!
Find a job
After getting my Journalism degree back in December 2016, I’ve been at home. I’ve been trying to figure out what I want in life and to find a job. But is has been very difficult to be honest. I feel like I kind of fell into this black hole after I was done studying. And this year I really need to get out of it. For one, because it’s been really stressful mentally, but also practically for financial reasons. So I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I’m finally going to find that job this year. Also, I have to say. Being able to blog, do Instagram and all the things that come along with that, have kept me sane. I don’t know what I would have done otherwise.
That’s it, those are the goals that I have for 2018. I really hope it will be a fantastic year. Not just for me obviously, but for you guys as well.
